Alert

This Fellowship will be not be offered in the September 2023 round. Any potential applications for the Nursing Fellowship should contact the General Manager to discuss options.

General

This Fellowship will be awarded to a nurse who is committed to a clinical career with a major involvement in cancer treatment or care of those affected by cancer. It is intended for nurses so that they can enhance their practice and expertise through further clinical training and/or research and thus contribute to improved patient outcomes in New Zealand. The expectation is that at the end of the Fellowship the successful applicant will become established in clinical practice in New Zealand. The duration of the Fellowship is up to two years.

Eligibility

Applicants should be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents who have recently completed a relevant Bachelor or Masters degree. The Fellowship will be available to nurses working clinically in (but not limited to) the fields of cancer nursing across the continuum (education, detection, treatment, rehabilitation and palliation) in primary and secondary health care.

Conditions

The Fellowship will be tenable at an approved Sponsoring Institution either in New Zealand or overseas. Applications must be accompanied by the formal agreement of a senior member of the staff of the Sponsoring Institution to undertake the duties of supervisor of the Fellow’s clinical work and/or research. There must be formal agreement by the Sponsoring Institution itself to support the Fellow, and to provide clinical access and/or facilities for the research or advanced training. The Clinical Fellowship provides a salary for up to two years and up to $3,000 of return travel costs, but the provision of equipment and working expenses for research will be the responsibility of the Sponsoring Institution. Institutional overheads will not be paid. With the approval of the Trust the salary may be spread over a period of up to three years. Research conducted by the Fellow may be used towards the requirements of a higher degree (Masters or PhD).

Salary

The salary will be based on the base salary which would have applied had the Fellow continued in a clinical post in New Zealand (not including any additional or on-call payments). With the permission of the Trust, the Sponsoring Institution may provide additional salary for clinical duties.

Reports and Publications

A final report is required within six months of completion of the Fellowship, or annually if the Fellowship is held for more than one year. The reports should be endorsed by the supervisor at the host institution.

Making Application

The closing date is in early October each year; please check the Trust web site for dates. Applications are only accepted through this grants portal.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to register on the grants portal, thus ensuring they will be notified when funding opportunities are available.
