Previously know as the Professional Development Event Award, these Cancer Education Development grants are aimed at supporting education events for cancer care professionals, research conferences, and engagement with the community.
The purpose of a Cancer Education Development Fund award is to support cancer-focused events in New Zealand. The fund may be used to support general event costs, or it may be used to fund the travel and accommodation of a distinguished overseas speaker. It can also be used to host a training course in the field of cancer or a hui that engages with community participants for cancer education or research.
For conferences, the application should be made by the chair of the local organising committee. Applications for funds will always exceed the amount available so funding rounds are managed on a competitive basis. Therefore, it is important that applications are well presented with clear objectives and relevant supporting information. A clear description of the expected costs with supporting evidence such as quotes from venues and airlines will assist the decision-making committee. If travel support is requested quotes must be provided (business class travel will only be considered for flights longer than 8 hours).
All applications should include consideration of how the event will contribute to health equity for Māori.
The online application form can be found on the Cancer Research Trust NZ's grants portal after registering as an applicant. Applications are only accepted through this grants portal. The closing dates for applications are in April and September each year, and are advised on the Cancer Research Trust NZ's grants portal. Applicants will be advised of the outcome in late May or early December.
Prospective applicants are encouraged to register on the grants portal, thus ensuring they will be notified when funding opportunities are available.
Applicants without previous experience of applying for competitive funding are advised to seek the help and input of colleagues who are practised and successful grant writers. A list of those applications funded since 2002 is available on our web site under funded projects.
